Low and high non-ferrous pressures Die Casting: Key Differences

 In Blog, Non-Ferrous Casting

Differences Between Low Pressure and High-Pressure Die Casting:

Both low-pressure and high-pressure die casting are permanent casting methods. These offer extra strength to the metal and can be applied to ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The non-ferrous casting product manufacturers apply the die-casting process regularly.

While both high-pressure and low-pressure die casting is helpful, these are highly different in characteristics. These factors are discussed in detail in the following section of this blog.

Characteristics of Low-Pressure Die Casting:

First, we will discuss the key characteristics of low-pressure die casting:

  • The low-pressure die casting (LPDC) product possesses a low density. This is primarily because it is formed by liquid self-weight. Though the product’s strength may not be as good as those made from HPDC, these are extremely flexible.
  • The surface finish of the product is not high. With the help of cooling and shrinking, it is easy to form pits on the outer surface.
  • LPDC as a process is simpler than HPDC, and the cost of the mould is much lower.

Characteristics of High-Pressure Die Casting:

Now, let us take a look at the characteristics of High-Pressure Die Casting:

  • The high pressure of the casting process makes the product much more compact and strong. However, the quality of elongation is much lower than the products made from LPDC.
  • The surface finish of the cast product is highly satisfactory and can be utilised in different sectors.
  • It is best to avoid treating the HPDC product with heat, as it may cause the internal gases to expand. This may result in the formation of a bulge or crack on the product.
  • The cost of the mould for performing High-pressure die casting is on the higher side. The longevity of the mould is also lesser than LPDC.

These are some key differences between high-pressure and low-pressure die casting. If you want to produce high-quality metallic casting from a trustworthy source, contact NAP Engineering Works.
