Know the Difference between Gravity Die Casting and Pressure Die Casting

In Aluminium Gravity Die Casting, Blog

Aluminium Gravity Die Casting method is used where the complexity of the cavity is less as in case of G.D.C metal flows into the cavity by gravity only. But the Pressure Die Casting method is used where the cavity is complex and the molten metal fills it by applying high pressure using complex machineries.

The casting methods can also be influenced by considerations of the required dimensional accuracy, surface finish and production capacity.

Parameters Gravity Die Casting

Pressure Die Casting

Minimum wall thickness 4 mm. 2 mm.
Tolerances on dimensions + 0.5 mm. (max.) + 0.2 mm. (max.)
Minimum size of cored hole 3 mm. 2 mm.
Surface finish Good. Very Good.
Complex machinery Not Required. Required.
Production capacity High. Very High.
Investment for Setup Medium. Very high.
Molten Metal Flow By Gravity. By High Pressure through machines.
